Things to Consider When Buying a Headstone in Farnborough

  • Before a headstone can be erected, the ground should be allowed to settle for at least 6/12 months. However, the headstone could be ordered as it will take time for the stone to arrive and the inscription added. We will place a wooden temporary marker following the burial..

  • Each cemetery will have its’ own rules and regulations when it comes to size, colour, material, and inscription allowed.  This is a big factor in the decision of which headstone you choose. Once we know where the headstone is going to be placed we can advise what is likely to be approved and what is not. Most cemeteries will have their rules and regulations available online. We will complete all the necessary paperwork.

  • There will be several documents that the stone mason will complete, including a quote for the work being carried out (these can be subject to change if the design/work changes), a proof of the wording, this needs to be checked carefully. Finally, there will likely be a document from the cemetery/church that would need a signature. It is worth noting that not all churchyards will require this.

  • The location of a headstone may affect the materials of choice, for example, if the headstone is under a tree, a non-porous stone would be more suitable

  • The wording on a memorial is extremely important, below are some examples.

Headstone Wording

Remembering both parents

Beloved by all who knew them

Ours is love everlasting

Death cannot part them

Missed by all

Safely home

Forever together, Mum & Dad

Life is not forever – love is

Until we meet again

Always together, never apart, joined as one heart

Gone but not forgotten

Goodnight and God bless you

I love you

Married [insert number of years here]

Treasured memories of our dear parents

Quotes for a loved one

In loving memory

Rest in peace

Peace, perfect peace

Reunited at last

Forever with the Lord

Our loss is God’s gain

Of your charity, pray for the soul of…

You may also wish to have a verse

Always in our thoughts
Forever in our hearts

A Dad to us, a friend to all
His smiling face we will recall
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home

Loving and kind in all his ways,
Upright and just to the end of his days,
Sincere and true in heart and mind,
A beautiful memory he left behind

God gave a treasure for a while,
To fill us with his love,
And then he took our darling child,
To dwell with him above

A smile for all
A heart of gold
One of the best this world could hold
Never selfish, always kind,
A beautiful memory left behind

Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one the chain will link again
